The average car journey in this country is 7 miles. However economical your car is, lots of short journeys use up fuel more quickly producing additional emissions. Using a bike instead of a car for such journeys, reduces these emissions to practically zero (a 14 mile round trip would use less than 5p worth of electricity), and over time will save you a fortune – whilst you do your bit to help to save the planet. You also get some healthy exercise and in many cases it will hardly take you any longer. Of course an ordinary bicycle will do just the same, but with the hills we have in this area, they aren’t a realistic option for any but the really committed cycling enthusiast. An electric assisted bike means that virtually anyone can do it.
Electric bikes are essentially ordinary pedal bicycles fitted with a small, battery powered electric motor that assists the rider as they pedal. Some bikes also have a throttle. There are different types of motor, different types / sizes of batteries and many different manufacturers. Some bikes can assist you for over 100 miles (between charges) but typically the range of most batteries will be 20-40 miles.
We stock a range of electric bikes from some of the leading suppliers in the country. You can test ride any of our bikes on real hills to see what they are capable of. Our expert advice based on thousands of miles of experience on many makes of electric bike will help you choose the ebike that’s right for you. We regularly hear how electric bikes have changed peoples lives – as well as saving them a small fortune on other transport costs. Perhaps an e-bike could do the same for you.
